I just gone done reading Candace Cameron Bure’s book, “Balancing It All: My Story of Juggling Priorities and Purpose“–the FIRST book I read in 2014!!! Many of you have read her the New York Times bestselling book, “Reshaping it All: Motivation for Physical and Spiritual Fitness“–a SUPER encouragement in regards to our health. Her newest book is a little different than “Reshaping it All”, as it’s more autobiographical. She tells a lot about her life, just as if you were sitting across the table from her! Stories like how she started into acting, what it was like going to school and finding friends, how she met her husband, and much more. She also gives us a glimpse into her current life as she details how she made the transition into the work world, and the juggling act that comes with being a wife and mama to 3 kids!  If you’ve always asked yourself,  “How does she balance it all?”, then grab this book and you’ll find out! Order here!

And as a side note– unless you’ve been living under a rock–or don’t watch tv or get online–you’ve probably heard of the crazy media attention that she got last week. Now, granted, last week was a planned week of media as her book had just been released. It was a week of interviews in New York City but I think it turned into much more hype than Candace ever expected!

A hot topic word in society today is the word “submission”, so whenever you say it, it means  a couple things to people. 2 of the more popular ones:

1.) a depressed, oppressed, quiet wife who has no mind of her own and has “lost herself” or

2.) something naughty that we would attach to the likes of the “50 Shades of Gray” books

Unfortunately, that “s” word is neither, provided that it’s defined in the biblical sense. But controversial media sells and boy did it ever! Because Candace wrote about it and expounded on it when asked about during interviews, the media took that and ran! If you google her name, you’ll find quite a few articles and videos of her discussing this subject!

Here is a list of the various shows she was on this week. Feel free to watch them if you want to hear more from her! She is always a delight to watch and handles herself perfectly!

The point of this post is not to defend or not defend biblical submission. I’m not interested in a theological debate about whether you are an egalitatarian or a complementation. However, here are the 2 thoughts I’ve had as her life played out as it did this past week:

a) The key to “Balancing It All” is indeed submission

But submission to who or what? Submission to God. James 4:7 tells us that we must submit ourselves fully to God. Ephesians 5:21 tells us to submit to one another and then details more about wives and husbands in verses 22-33. Candace has found the key to the balance in her world…it’s her heart for the Lord and obedience to His will above anything else. That’s a solid example!

b.) Live your story

Many of you know that Candace is more than just an author and actor that I respect, but also someone I consider a friend. When you see your friend get beat up in the media a bit, there’s a natural defense mechanism that comes up! It was an interesting week on my end to say the least! I woke up mid-week with her immediately on my mind (I had fallen asleep reading her book–maybe that had something to do with it!), and the thing that kept resonating was this:

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 -and-

“But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be?” 1 Corinthians 12:18-19

None of this came as a surprise to God! He knew as she was being formed in her mama’s womb that these “good works” would be her gift and calling. He has placed her with her specific personality, talent, and time to share the message of Christ. It doesn’t take away the hits and stings that come with living your life in a fallen world, but it makes the pursuit so much more purposeful! My prayers changed for her as I woke that morning knowing that she was doing exactly what she needed to be doing! What a beautiful light that was spread throughout media! As she said herself, God is the best publicist out there! 🙂

Oh, I’ve got a third…

c.) Go get the book!!!

I mean, DUH–of course I’m going to tell you that! It is a delightful, encouraging read!

This won’t be the last time that she is “in it” knee deep (er, higher).

And it won’t be the last time that she’s been through the THICK  of it.

But I can tell you this–Candace will run this race well and cross that finish line. You won’t see her go to extremes because as he has indeed found the key to “balancing It all” in this crazy, extreme world–full submission to our Holy, Sovereign, and GOOD God, and THAT my friends, is worth its weight in gold.
