Cooking with Candace & a Giveaway!

July 1, 2011

***Giveaway Closed! Winner Posted on Wednesday, July 6th!**

Today I have a guest post from someone I think you might know, Candace Cameron Bure, author of “Reshaping it All: Motivation for Physical and Spiritual Fitness” ! I’m so excited to feature this recipe because it’s another twist on one of the items we did for the “Try It” Challenge— quinoa!! I’m also sure you remember my book review. I’ve had many readers contact me with such GREAT feedback from reading “Reshaping it All” so I KNOW you won’t be disappointed!

We also have a giveaway! Please leave a comment below with your name and something you’d like to see on this blog that would help YOU, “Reshape It All” (recipe, exercise, equipment etc)  and I’ll enter you for a chance to win Candace’s book! Hurry!! Enter by 10pm EST on July 4th!!

♥♥♥

Candace says, “If I’m cooking, it’s because I’m following a simple recipe from a magazine or book, or watched it on the Food Network or Cooking Channel and remembered a version of it. Val cooks most of the meals in our home, not me. I’m a lousy chef and even ruined the asparagus recipe that’s in my own book! LOL. But I’ll tell you, my husband doesn’t care how mediocre my food is because he’s just happy when he gets a night off from cooking!

Here’s a delicious recipe I got from one of my favorite fitness magazines, “Oxygen” called, “Quinoa Jambalaya.” Enjoy!

Here’s my version of the recipe. Looks really good!

And here it is plated and topped with green onion. It was delicious and a hit for the whole family!

If you are looking for more healthy recipes, pick up my book, Reshaping it All, where I feature one in each chapter along with plenty of motivation for physical and spiritual fitness.”

Thank you so much for bringing us into your home and family, Candace!

♥♥♥

Candace Cameron Bure first became known to millions as a co-star on the hit ABC television series Full House. Today, like her brother Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains, Fireproof), she is the rare Hollywood actor who is outspoken about her Christian faith and how it helps overcome certain obstacles, like her struggle with food addiction.

Bure’s healthy lifestyle has been featured in US Weekly and People magazines as well as national talk shows including The View and NBC’s Today. In Reshaping It All, she continues the story, inspiring women to embrace a healthier lifestyle by moving faith to the forefront, making wise choices, and finding their worth in the eyes of God. Candace shares a candid account of her struggle with food and ultimately her healthy outlook on weight despite the toothpick-thin expectations of Hollywood.

I just love Candace! I’m so excited that she (and Kirk) are so open in their faith! What a blessing. I would LOVE to see some kettlebell exercises. There are so many out there from Jillian, to Bob, to the infomercial on tv at 3am. But in reading reviews, they’ve all been knocked as wrong form and easily self-injuring. I know they are GREAT total body work out, but I’m afraid to try them…but I want to try them. Just SAFELY!

Yes, I tried Jillian’s 30 day shred but had to stop because me knees hurt so bad I could hardly bend over. A friend of mine had the same trouble and had to stop using hers. So I went back to my power walk video and also started doing P90X ab ripper.

I’m going to have to try this recipe. My hubby would love it!

As for something I’d like to see on this blog that would help me reshape it all . . . how about a post on how to exercise efficiently? How to maximize your time when working out (since time is always is short supply for busy moms!). That would be super helpful 🙂

I would love to win a copy of this book! What I would like to see on this blog are Ab and Core exercises using only the exercise ball. I have an issue with my tailbone so I cannot do ANY floor exercises for my abs; I need something that I can do while sitting/leaning on the exercise ball instead. I’ve been having trouble finding exercises like this so it’s been tough to workout my abs/core as much as I would like to(okay, as much as I NEED to) :0)

Thank you for this giveaway and a great blog!

I love the look of this recipe – I’ve been hesitant to try quinoa, but this looks great! I’d also love to see kettlebell exercises that don’t require a new DVD to get a great workout in – I have too many already! And always, bring on the recipes!

I’m so excited to try this recipe! I would love to win Candace’s book simply because faith and food are a big part of my life, however I lead such a busy life it’s hard to keep it all grounded. I try to find recipes that are good for my husband and I, and I know her book will have some great ones, and I also love how she incorporated spiritual wellness in the book as well. I would love to read her ideas of how spiritual and health wellness can be maintained in a busy lifestyle like hers, and mine.

Loved this recipe! First time to your blog and I really like it- lots of good stuff. I would love to see recipes that are healthy and kid friendly. I have picky little eaters! 🙂 The hardest thing to get them to eat is meat and vegetables… Meat I am not as concerned about, but vegetables definitely more so…

I’ve just recently found out about Candace’s book and would LOVE the opportunity to read it!
I am finding that despite working out 2 days a week and maintaining basic food intake, working full-time, raising 2 girls, building my marriage and being involved with ministry all take priority timewise and I’m stuck figuring out how I can take it to the next level so I can feel good about my appearance and health the right way.

I”m excited to be inspired and guided by a fellow sister in Christ to see what works for her!

I noticed Sarah’s question and thought I might mention this. In Candace’s book she says that her kids love so many different types of food because they have introduced so many into their diet. They always make the kids try it, and if they don’t like it then they introduce it again a few months later. Because kids tastebuds and likes change over time it’s a good idea to keep on introducing food over time.

My partner does a majority of the cooking since I have a nerve disorder and when I cut things up for even a salad, my hands go numb. Not the best way to cook, eh? Well, with my nerve disorder, I find it equally difficult to exercise. Candace, could you think up a few recipes that require minimal chopping/dicing, all while incorporating some lower and core exercise while cooking?? I’m thinking lunges to the fridge… what do you think??
