21 Days to a Hunger-Free {and Healthy!} Holiday: Week 1-Sacrifice

Hey all! I am so happy to see that this challenge excites you as much as it does me! I am ready to do a bit of a detox after a long weekend of Thanksgiving goodies and whacked out exercise! :) (For more info on the challenge, go here!)

Here is your checklist for this week:

1.) Get your jar/container that your notes and/or money will go in

2.) Print off the verses to glue on your jar or carry with you

3.) Establish a money or service amount that you will “pay yourself” every time you make the healthy decision

4.) Get to it!

Every Monday for these next 3 weeks, I’ll be talking a little bit about what I’m processing through this challenge. This week, I want to start out with the word SACRIFICE.

I want you to know that even though you are going after this with great intentions, it won’t be easy! We are indeed SACRIFICING something in our lives, be it our taste buds’ satisfaction, our time, or our talent.

But as our verse says,

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Hebrews 13:16

God is pleased with us doing good, and sharing with others. We are SERVING others, which means that we are humbly putting ourselves in a different position, sometimes bringing on heartache and pain, to help another. I guarantee you, that at sometime during this challenge, you will feel a little sting as you put that money or act of service in your jar! But as Christians, we are to be living sacrifices in everything we do…

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.” Romans 12:1

The exact “reason for the season” is the greatest example of this sacrifice for us!

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” 1 John 4:9-10

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

I am so thankful for the birth of Jesus–the One who sacrificed His life to take away my sins!

I know that God will be teaching you some things through these 21 days and I would love to hear about it! Please be sure to check in on my facebook walltwitter, or even in the comments below here.

Finally, I would love to have a tally of how many are going to take part in this challenge. Would you mind leaving a comment below telling me that you are in?!  (If family is doing it together, I’d love to hear that too!)

Ready. Set. GO!!! 21 Days to a Hunger-Free {and Healthy!} Holiday has begun!!

P.S. It’s never too late to join us!

  1. Stephanie says

I’m in. My will power has been low lately. I’m hoping that this challenge will give me motivation to get back on track because I do know that we all need to take care of the bodies God has given to us in a way pleasing to HIM.

  2. Angel says

I’m in! I’ve not been on track with my eating at ALL…to the point i’m losing weight in an unhealthy manner and getting sick a lot. Hoping this can teach me what healthy means :-)

  3. Lanissa says

My daughter and I are in! I am excited to get started with eating healthier, exercising, bonding with my daughter, getting closer to God plus helping others!

  4. Lisa says

I’m in. Or at least I really want to be. And I’m really going to try to be – but that doesn’t sound determined enough, so I’ll go back to “I’m in.” :)

  5. Maggie says

I’m so excited to try this (well, really, “do”)! I’m going to see if I can get some of my friends in on this, too – I’m certain that I’ll need some support! :)

  6. Jen says

This is a great challenge! Excited to get involved. After losing almost 30 pounds this past year, I know the holidays are going to be tough so this might be the motivation I need. Thanks!

  7. says

I am ready! I have lost 38 pounds and I enjoyed the holiday food a little too much this last week. I’m ready to get back on track, thanks for the challenge!

  8. Tammie says

I can’t wait to get started!! Thanks for the challenge to get back on track and hopefully get my husband on track to!

  9. Natasja says

I’m in :-) Starting today with packing up some boxes to be shipped to the Philippines full of clothes, bags, canned foods, school supplies,… to be distributed by my friend’s family who comes from one of the areas affected by the Typhoon

  10. Dana says

I am in! So glad this reminder showed up in my inbox today! I’m going to encourage my kids to do this along with me and I think I’m going to do both $$ and service – things we can do as a family. Thanks for the encouragement.

  11. Amy says

I’m in! Thanks for doing this. Always helpful to have someone else lead the way and assemble a place for people to support each other.

  12. Heidi Clark says

this is a great idea, but what if you have no money to “pay” yourself? And at the end of each week what do we do with the money?

    • says

Great question! I addressed this in my original post about the challenge, but you can pay yourself by doing volunteer work, so use minutes instead of money.

Just keep a running total of your money each week and at the end of the 21 days, you will deposit /give it to charity of choice! (Unless, you decide to volunteer time)

I’m so in. Isn’t it crazy how we are more motivated to do something that benefits others than to do something to benefit ourselves? Human beings are crazy. :-)
